Choosing for Friends Relative to Strangers in Need Decreases Risky Decision-Making

Abstract
The degree to which we are willing to take risks for others in need is an important yet understudied question. Applying a manipulation of social closeness to an economic decision task under prosocial conditions, we find that people are less likely to take risks to benefit friends relative to strangers.
