Abstract
Previous research created an operationalization of academic engagement using the frequency of nonverbal behaviors exhibited during classroom discussion. Using a pretest-videotaped discussion-posttest design, we examined what role mirroring plays for learning college statistics. Results show that high engagement levels, indexed by nonverbal mirroring, predicts improvement in knowledge of statistical concepts.
