Same Symptoms, Different Diagnoses and Prognoses? Investigating the Role of Race and Race Constructs on Treatment of Mentally Ill Patients

This study revealed that race (Black vs. White) and race construct (biological vs. social) influenced participant’s diagnostic impressions and proposed treatment plans for a patient presenting with symptoms of mental illness. A significant difference was computed across race conditions when patients were rated for deservingness of government funded treatment.
