Abstract

Disgust images are better remembered than fear images, despite both eliciting highly arousing negative emotion. We tested whether enhanced memory for disgust extends to involuntary recall. Our data suggest it does: participants experienced more involuntary memories for disgust than fear images. This result has implications for understanding PTSD.
