Grading up: The Influence of Gender and Handwriting on Grades

Abstract
Addressing a gap in the literature on grading bias, participants graded neat and messy essays written by male, female, or ambiguously named students. In addition to main effects, there was a two-way interaction between participants’ perceptions of handwriting and gender on grades. Implications are discussed.
