Interdependence and Independence Self-Construals: Individual-Level Associations with Emotion Suppression Behavior and Values

The present study investigates the associations between self-construals (SC) with emotion suppression behavior (ES) and values among Chinese international students. ES behavior and values were predicted by lower levels of independent SC after controlling for interdependent SC. However, ambivalence over emotion expression and suppression flexibility were predicted by interdependent SC.
