Abstract

To test play’s role in psychological development, we surveyed parents (USA:N=574; China:N=382) about their childhood play, play attitudes, and preschool children’s play, wellbeing and sociomoral development. We also tested play, RSA (autonomic regulation) and morality in 6-year-olds (N=78). Greater play predicted higher wellbeing and social thriving and lower maladaptation.
