Attributions of Responsibility for Drug-Related Crime: A Qualitative Study with Future Police Officers

There is limited research on law enforcement reasoning surrounding causal responsibility and punishment of drug users. We interviewed twenty future officers regarding their attributions of responsibility surrounding drug-related crimes. Participants varied in empathy for drug users as well as in their suggested police responses to crimes committed under the influence.
