Experience As a First-Generation College Student in Predicting Leader Efficacy: First-in-Family Status and the Development of Leader Identity

This study examined how status as first-generation or continuing-generation college students shapes beliefs about leader efficacy. Survey data suggest identifying as a first-generation student is a significant predictor of comfort with consulting superiors for leadership advice as well as a significant predictor of individuals’ capacity for innovative and ethical thinking.
