Managing Children’s Negative Emotions: Exploring the Role of Parental Cognitions

We investigated the ability of parents’ perceived threat to children, locus of control, and flooding to predict reactions to their children’s negative emotions. The models explained 28% of the variance in supportive reactions and 75% of the variance in non-supportive reactions. Locus of control and flooding emerged as significant predictors.
