Abstract

Prenatal maternal stress was associated with adverse birth outcomes such as lower birth weight, preterm birth, decreased fetal movement, and abnormal heart rate. Non-white mothers were more likely to experience adverse birth outcomes, and exposure to prenatal stress had a stronger effect on birth outcomes for women from lower SES.
