Contrast Avoidance Predicts Pain Interference and Marijuana Problems in Marijuana Users Reporting Pain

Abstract

Contrast avoidance, or the aversion to sudden emotional shifts, may play an important role in marijuana use problems. In a sample of regular marijuana users with co-occurring pain, we found contrast avoidance was uniquely associated with pain interference and marijuana problems even when controlling for general distress and pain catastrophizing.
