Emotion researchers have used supervised machine learning classifiers to discover biomarkers in the brain or body for various emotion categories. In the present study, we critically examine the validity of this approach by contrasting findings from supervised and unsupervised approaches across three datasets measuring the brain, body, and subjective experience.
