Academic Entitlement and Cheating in College: The Mediating Role of Neutralization

Abstract

We estimate a model assessing the relationship between neutralization, academic entitlement, and academic dishonesty. The study consists of data from 483 undergraduate students attending a public liberal arts college. Findings indicate
neutralization mediates the relationship between academic entitlement and academic dishonesty. There remains no direct effect between entitlement and cheating.
