Abstract
We tested the effects of affect labeling on self-reported emotional intensity toward positive and negative images. Participants reported higher emotional intensity when they labeled their positive emotional responses than when they just viewed the image. This challenges the previous notion that affect labeling leads to automatic inhibition of emotional responses.
