Abstract
An experimental study examined the effectiveness of five empirically supported physician communication strategies on three clinically significant patient outcomes. Results demonstrated that the communication strategies of promoting adherence, providing information, reducing distress, and increasing satisfaction were equally effective and were all better than the strategy of encouraging hope.
