Abstract
Young children of depressed mothers are prone to (a) emotion hypervigilance, which is selectively attending toward happy and sad faces and perceiving their mothers’ depression as highly impairing and threatening, and (b) emotion withdrawal, which is avoidance of happy and sad faces and perceptions of low levels of mother’s depression.
