Abstract
Adults (n=140) completed an orthographic choice task. Three mechanisms of the influence of phonology on behavior were evaluated using accuracy and response-time data. Number of phoneme-grapheme mappings and phoneme preservation of the misspelling affected performance when frequency, word length, and position of misspelling were controlled, although phoneme-grapheme contingency did not.
