Lonely People May Face Less Stigma Than They Think

Abstract
In a series of studies, we tested the hypothesis that participants would stigmatize a lonely target. We found that college students had negative perceptions of a lonely target, especially when the target lacked social competence. A diverse sample of U.S. adults did not exhibit a bias against lonely individuals.
