Success Is Subjective: Progress Reflection May Increase Students’ Perceived Competence As They Learn Math

Abstract
In a series of three laboratory experiments (total N = 617), we found evidence that progress reflection can increase students’ perceived competence. In two of the three studies, those who reflected on their progress while learning a math technique reported higher ability beliefs and expectancies for success.
