Abstract
We assessed memory and metamemory for medical terminology studied in the presence or absence of accompanying illustrations (15-second presentation). Judgments of learning indicated overconfidence. A picture superiority effect was not observed on either recall or recognition memory tests, potentially due to the conceptual and perceptual similarity of the medical illustrations.
