Abstract

Beliefs in tempting fate were examined through the lens of anthropomorphism. By grounding beliefs in tempting fate in the extent to which God is perceived as capable of sophisticated mental capacities, an experiment showed that reminders of an anthropomorphic (vs. non-anthropomorphic) God elicited beliefs in tempting fate, especially among Christians.
