Enhanced Memory for Task-Irrelevant Stimulus Features in Older Adults

Abstract
Older adults remembered an irrelevant feature of studied words (font color) better than younger adults. This finding was obtained for words that subjects were told were to be forgotten, and words (but not colors) that subjects were told would tested. Older adults may show enhanced encoding of extraneous information.
