Elaboration and Memory: Going with the Flow Aids Factor Learning in Math

Students enrolled in a college math course were taught the steps to factor polynomials via a flowchart or list and self-testing. The flowchart group showed greater free recall for the correct order of steps. The results support previous literature and suggests flowcharts may be an effective learning aid for factoring.
