Your Truest Self: Disparities in Self-Other Perceptions

Beliefs about which contexts most reveal the nature of a person’s “true self” were explored qualitatively. Participants significantly more frequently reported their own true selves to emerge in nonthreatening contexts, and significantly more frequently reported the true selves of others to be visible in stressful situations, suggesting a correspondence bias.
