Abstract
Twelve distinct beliefs about relationships were assessed with regard to friendship and romantic relationships. Young adults’ beliefs about friendship and romantic relationships were strongly correlated; beliefs were associated with attachment-related anxiety and avoidance for each type of relationship; and beliefs mediated the association between relationship-specific attachment-related avoidance and relationship quality.
