Active Versus Passive Use Does Not Moderate the Association between Social Media Use and Depressive Symptoms

Abstract
In an adult lifespan sample in the United States (n=577, age 19–81), higher social media use was associated with more depressive symptoms, regardless of active or passive use. These findings suggest that high use of social media may be a risk factor for negative mental health outcomes in adulthood.
