Effects of Support and Criticism on State Authenticity: The Moderating Role of Attachment in Relationships with Mothers

Support enhanced authenticity for individuals low in anxiety and criticism lowered authenticity for individuals high in anxiety. Also, support reduced negativity about the self for participants high in anxiety but low in avoidance. Thus, the degree to which reminders of support and criticism can alter authenticity is dependent on attachment.
