Abstract
Burnout in a sample of medical students was examined in relation to measures of situation-specific and symptom-specific social anxiety. Findings from questionnaire data indicated that emotional exhaustion, but not cynicism or professional inadequacy, related to fear and avoidance of situations that produce social anxiety. Implications regarding medical training are discussed.
