Reward Responsiveness Enhanced By a Brief Motivation Manipulation: A Multi-Method Study with Implications for Depression

Abstract
Participants completed two rounds of a monetary reward task while event-related potentials were recorded. Those randomized to a brief motivation manipulation before the second round showed decreased reaction time, increased neural response to reward, and increased self-reported motivation, compared to those randomized to neutral instructions.
