Regulatory Focus in Romantic Relationship Initiation

In our study of 208 single college students over 14 waves during six months, stronger promotion motivations predicted increased direct attraction expressions and greater perceived liking and self-disclosure from romantic interests, whereas stronger prevention motivations predicted less physical contact initiation, greater mixed signals perceptions, and fewer romantic or sexual partners.
