Abstract
Participants were randomly assigned to a scenario where a supervisor consistently makes a mistake and either apologizes or doesn’t apologize. The results showed that making an apology is risky. As the apology effectively communicates “knowing better”, supervisors who apologized paid a higher price for a recurring mistake than their counterparts.
