Abstract

Participants did the cold-pressor test while using their smartphone (distraction) or not (no distraction). Those who used their phone had a higher pain tolerance, but there were no differences in threshold, intensity, or unpleasantness. Results suggest using a smartphone to distract oneself may be an effective method of pain control.
