A Sense of Autonomy Mediates the Relationship between Helicopter Parenting and Fear of Negative Evaluation in College Students

To investigate the relationship between helicopter parenting, fear of negative evaluation (FNE) and autonomy, college students completed a series of surveys. Results suggest that, after taking into account differences in FNE driven by gender, helicopter parenting influences fear of negative evaluation by decreasing the students’ sense of autonomy.
