Abstract
Power dynamics in graduate engineering education influence students’ experiences of bias. Interview participants described being treated differently by advisors, faculty, and peers. These experiences contributed to feelings of not belonging. While generally problematic, these experiences cause women and racial/ethnic minority students to consider leaving engineering and compound inequitable representation.
