Abstract
In a sample of 27947 adults, we examined within- and between-person longitudinal associations between depression and three pleasant emotions (cheer, contentment, tranquility) using a random-intercept cross-lagged panel model. At the between-person level, all three pleasant emotions were negatively associated with depression. Within-person associations showed only diminished contentment prospectively predicted depression.
