The Relationship between Psychological Control and Marijuana Use

Abstract
Results described are part of a larger project on cross-cultural family dynamics. The relationship between parental discipline and adolescent substance use was examined among n=286 college students. Mother’s psychological control significantly predicted marijuana use, p=.01, suggesting that psychological control as a discipline strategy is associated with adolescent marijuana use.
