Children’s Skills with Repeating Patterns and Growing Patterns Correlate with Arithmetic Performance

Abstract
Eighty-six children, from 4 to 9 years old, completed several math and pattern-based activities. After controlling for age and working memory capacity, children’s performance on a variety of patterning tasks were associated with their arithmetic fluency, suggesting a critical link between patterning and mathematics.
