Fit Indices and Measurement Invariance with Unequal Group Sample Sizes

Measurement invariance establishes that constructs are measured similarly for multiple groups. Invariance testing includes four sequential stages. At stage one, there are two approaches to testing invariance. This study illustrates that with unequal group sample sizes, researchers may draw incongruent conclusions of invariance across the two different approaches.
