Abstract

Relations were assessed between maternal childhood maltreatment, reported on validated questionnaires, and infant regional brain volumes. Regression results, controlling for age and total grey matter volume, indicated that maternal experiences of physical abuse, sexual abuse, and household member with mental illness were predictive of enlarged infant amygdala and hippocampal volumes.
