Use of Analogues during Exploratory Learning Reduces Cognitive Load While Learning a New Physics Concept

Abstract
Exploring a problem before instruction often benefits learning, but is cognitively demanding. In an undergraduate physics course (N=162), we demonstrated that providing a familiar analogy with a new problem to explore increases accuracy on the exploration activity and reduces cognitive load.
