Abstract
In a laboratory experiment, unacquainted dyads completed a closeness induction over iMessage, then made partner evaluations. Participants who enjoyed their partner’s emoji use or found it beneficial had more positive partner perceptions than those who didn’t. Perceptions of a novel texting partner may depend on perceptions of partner’s emoji use.
