Abstract
Mental illness is associated with being volatile or unstable, but the extent of these stereotypes vary across ethnic groups. Findings reveal perceptions of Caucasians with mental illness are most similar to general perceptions of destructive and irresponsible behaviors. Hispanic and African American perceptions resemble general perceptions of ashamed behaviors.
