Catch 22: What Do You Do When You Just Can't Win?

Abstract
This research investigated performance and persistence on solvable and unsolvable anagrams and looked for differences based on anxiety and self-esteem of participants. Our findings revealed that the timing of the unsolvable task decremented performance and persistence and that anxiety but not self-esteem was related to these measures.
