The Machines Will Not Replace Us: A Comparison of Emotion Coding Systems

Abstract
Emotional facial expressions are complex, dynamic events that are difficult to quantify. This study examined subjects watching a disgust-eliciting film, comparing codes from two manual systems to those from an automated software coding system. The two manual systems showed very high levels of agreement, while the automated system did not.
