Use of Guided Questions in Online Discussion Prompts Can Limit Creative Topic Application

This study utilized structured online discussion board prompts with or without guided questions. Posts were coded for length, level of application, number of posts, number and diversity of application. The results indicate guided questions may increase engagement in meaningful discussion at the expense of creative application of the topic.
