Abstract
Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder have impaired emotion recognition. ASD is a spectrum disorder and therefore can be investigated in typically-developing individuals using prevalence of ASD characteristics. Our data indicate this stems from a distracting effect of the mouth region when identifying an emotion typically recognized by viewing the eyes.
