Abstract
Stress exposure and cardiovascular reactivity to stress are believed to be significant contributors to racial disparities in cardiovascular health. Fifty-seven African American and European American adults completed a stress task in the lab. Cardiovascular reactivity measured by heart rate variability to the stressor varied by race, gender, and chronic stress.
