An Influence of Language on Reasoning about Ambiguous Spatial Scenes

Abstract

Does language influence reasoning about spatial scenes? Participants who saw ambiguous scenes along with spatial descriptions were more likely to say that the figure would be affected if something happened to the ground. This finding suggests language may play a role in reasoning about interactions between objects in the world.
