Abstract
We propose semantic diversity as an objective measure for examining context-based theories of semantic and conceptual processing. Results of a semantic categorization task and re-analyses of mega-study data for 10,000 words indicate that semantic diversity is a significantly better predictor of semantic processing than traditional predictors, including word frequency.
